Oriel home

Questions.

Direct answers about ownership, transition, people, and fit.

Firm continuity

What permanent ownership protects—and what may still change.

Will my firm keep its name?

Yes—for as long as it serves your clients. Your name carries decades of trust. If it ever changes, it changes gradually and for your clients’ sake, not ours.

Does a permanent home mean nothing changes?

No. Permanent describes our ownership horizon. Leadership, systems, roles, and branding may evolve when the long-term health of the firm requires it.

People

How roles, knowledge, and client relationships enter the plan.

What happens to my people?

We retain every existing position through the change in ownership. The transition plan identifies who clients and colleagues rely on, what knowledge must carry forward, and where people can grow into broader responsibilities.

Can team members share in the upside?

Yes. The people who create the value should share in the value, license or no license. The form of participation follows applicable professional rules and the structure agreed for the firm.

Will systems or workflows change?

Yes, where better tools or workflows improve the work. We make those changes with the team and use technology to remove repetition and improve service—not to justify acquisition-related job cuts.

Transition

The founder’s role, timing, and first priorities.

Do I have to retire right away?

No. Transitions typically run three to five years, at a pace you set. Your role can change over that period as leadership and client relationships are handed over deliberately.

What happens in the first year after we agree?

Mostly, nothing your clients would notice. You keep leading while we begin supporting the firm with better systems, more capacity, and succession planning. Change is gradual by design.

Ownership

The commitment behind a permanent home.

What makes Oriel different from an interim owner?

We acquire small accounting firms to hold forever—not to prepare them for the next sale.

What does evergreen mean at Oriel?

It means our ownership model is centered on holding and improving firms over the long term. The return comes from being a good owner, not from planning a resale.

Economics

Return, price, and how to compare an offer.

How does Oriel expect to earn a return?

From three places: improving the firm’s profitability, earning fair-market fees for real support the firm uses, and holding a healthy business to compound over time. Each depends on the firm continuing to serve clients well.

Why shouldn’t I just take the highest offer?

You should choose the offer that fits your priorities. Compare the price, payment terms, transition expectations, and the buyer’s ownership horizon—not the headline number alone.

What do you actually pay?

A fair price, structured over time and tied to the firm staying healthy—which protects both of us. We explain exactly how we think about price after understanding your firm; we do not publish a number before that conversation.

First conversation

What the first step is, and what it is not.

Do I need to be ready to sell now?

No. A useful conversation can begin before you have made a decision. Early planning creates more room to think through ownership, timing, and the handoff.

When will I hear back?

We reply personally within 48 hours. The first conversation is private, unhurried, and does not require you to have made a decision.
